Lucila Zavala is a Puerto-Rican Soprano, currently a Masters in Music student at the Shepherd School of Music, at Rice University, where she studies under the tutelage of Ana María Martínez. Zavala was named a 2023 National Semifinalist in the Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition. In her career she‘s been honored with multiple prestigious awards, most recently she was named Education Fund Grant Recipient from the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition.
In addition to her achievements, Zavala will be covering Morgana in the opera “Alcina” this season at school and was cover as Lucia in the opera "The Rape of Lucretia" last season at Rice. Lucila attended the Young Artist Vocal Academy at Houston Grand Opera in May 2023. Most recently, Zavala attended the Seagle Festival for the summer of 2023 as a Nancy Smith Fellow to make her role debut as Juliette in their production of Gounod's "Romèo et Juliette", and as Sor Isabel in Crozier's "With Blood, With Ink" as an Emerging Artist.
